Funded UCL CASE PhD Studentship - Autonomous Robotic Collective Construction (2018/2019 start)

AML-UCL is delighted to announce a new studentship opportunity investigating novel frameworks that support on-site robot assembly involving the collective manipulation and placement of material. 

The construction industry is poised for widespread adoption of robotic technologies. For both on-site and off-site construction, techniques that uses a team of autonomous mobile robots to collectively work together offer substantial benefits e.g. e.g. increased productivity, building lifespan, safety etc. that have yet to be verified beyond computer simulations. Further, the challenges represented by application in outdoor environments introduce many unknowns that need to be resolved due to the dynamic nature of the tasks and surrounding context. By combining automation with high performance computing and enhanced intelligence, we aim to investigate adaptive construction processes that can produce light-weight and structurally efficient assemblages.
